Apraxia Awareness Day

Q: What is childhood apraxia of speech (CAS)?

A: The short(ish) answer: It is a motor speech disorder (without weakness) where a child knows what s/he wants to say BUT has difficulty with: Moving & coordinating the lips, tongue etc; Shifting between sounds/syllables; Producing vowels, they are distorted; Prosody/Intonation resulting in a monotone inflection; & challenges with consistency of production for words.
