Remembering E3 2017 & Looking Forward to E3 2018!

A Childhood Dream

A reflection by Zachary Grayson June 10, 2017

The past month since graduation has been great! I’ve traveled every weekend and have been taking full advantage of having free time while I can.

Today I’m heading to Los Angeles for the next 11 days to go to Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017, E3, and tour!

A Long, Long Time Ago…

In the 5th grade, our teachers told us to draw where we wanted to be in 10 years, or something along those lines.

I drew a picture of my brother and me going to E3.

Where will I be? At E3 with my brother!

While I’m two years off of the 10 year mark, it’s close enough!

LA and E3 here I come!

My Art

My art has been on a shelf since I made it. I called my parents from the airport to ask them to find it and take pictures for me to share on Facebook. All these years, sitting on a shelf and here I am following my dream.

Children’s Communication Center

Beyond the obvious excitement, I am traveling with my new businesses cards and proud to officially be the Social Media and Technical Adviser for Children’s Communication Center!

The Center is a Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) private practice established in 1993 primarily for young children, however, it has expanded to young adults to meet the needs of the community.

My new business cards!

It is time for me to explore more options for the children, teens, and young adults seen at our Center. I knew my high school English research papers on the benefits of video games for learning were right! Now let’s get a list of video games to use with our SLP friends!

Wait till you see my E3 ‘shopping list’ for the Center, it’s going to be long!

What Happens When School Design Looks Like [Video] Game Design?

An Excerpt from Jordan Shapiro’s Article on Mind/Shift

The school “…looked very similar to any other school, EXCEPT every student seemed engaged, empowered, and motivated.

It wasn’t what I expected…There weren’t screens all over the place. No fingers pounding game controllers. I didn’t see tons of gadgets or gizmos.

But I did see a curriculum that was designed to approach from a video game perspective. The organizational structure through which material was presented was game-like… Success is a product of their to ability use complex concepts in context, not to memorize and regurgitate…”

A Childhood Dream Becomes Reality

YES, You Can Be Successful At What You Love To Do!

Our son, Adam, with his BFA from the University of Florida in Digital Media and MS in Interactive Entertainment from UCF Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy, is working as a Technical Environmental Artist with his colleagues at 343 Industries, and proudly presents HALO 5.

Adam was this Center’s first Technical Adviser & continues to offer his assistance from the West Coast.

What an accomplishment!

Our Children’s Dreams

NOW, I realize this game is controversial for many families, and it is the first in the series to earn a T- Teen rating (not M-Mature), but THIS post is about our children’s DREAMS that come to fruition through years of hard work and dedication, not about who should or shouldn’t play the game, AND about the pride and joy parents feel for such achievements.

Questions?

If you are interested in learning about video games which are appropriate for your child, please contact us and we will share based on the factors which would be beneficial for your child.

A special thanks to Adam’s early mentors, Chris Wenneman and Carl Owenby!

Summer & Minecraft, A Parent’s Perspective

Summer Vacation & Video Games

A parent’s perspective while watching his children play video games, in this case, Minecraft

Yes there is irony as he points out “… they don’t actually have to build a farm. They can just walk outside and be part of a real one.”

To that we say, use the two farms together for a complete language experience!

Visit the “real” farm early in the morning and late in the day, and “build” a farm during the peak intensely heated summer hours!

These farms are not mutually exclusive, enjoy both!

Children’s Communication Center is available to see you this summer!
