25 Family Activities Celebrating 25 Years!

We are celebrating with you and sharing 25 activities enjoyed by our families over the past 25 years.

We all know that summer requires shade and indoor options, but most of the activities can be adapted to year round fun!

Edible Kitchen Science!

YaYa’s in the Kitchen creating chocolate chip brownies with fresh organic raspberries and local organic blueberries from Green Meadows Farm (GMF).

YaYa and YoYo were in the blueberry fields on opening day 2019 at GMF.

Since many families have a favorite brownie recipe or mix, use what you prefer or try a new recipe. Then, add 1 cup of fresh berries and fold them gently into your batter.

YES, YaYa also added 1/2 cup of chocolate chips!

You can use one berry or any combination that works for your family. If you choose strawberries or blackberries, you may want to slice or quarter them.

We suggest that you allow your little ones choose the type of berries and the topping.

Today, YaYa sprinkled the top of the batter with sliced almonds before baking. But, you can stir nuts into the batter or omit nuts if that is not your “thing”.

Be sure to visit YaYa’s other recipes for more family baking fun!

Are You Wondering…

what you can do at home to help your child?

We are glad you asked!

Our children have the opportunity to expand their communication skills (speech, language, literacy, learning, and social skills) daily through their interactions with peers and adults in their lives.

With or without a specific Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) challenge or need, our children can benefit from their every day interactions.

No Parent Needs More Homework

Early in her Speech-Language Pathology career, our Director, Lori Savage Grayson, learned an important lesson from a parent.

While offering a parent ideas for a home program, the parent asked a then very new Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), “Do you have children? Do you have a secret for fitting these extra assignments into our daily schedule?

It was that moment, that the new SLP realized the best avenue for helping parents was to learn more about EACH family’s routines. To brain-storm with the parent/s and customize the home program. By sharing activities that fit into EACH family’s daily living schedule, families were more more likely to be successful.

Now, 40 years later, Ms. Grayson proudly continues this practice by showing parents how to tweak their interactions and enhance their child’s skills, infants through young adults.

Clearly, no parent or family needs another assignment or homework, but each of us can learn to be a more effective and efficient communicator no matter one’s age!
