Autism Speaks U (ASU) is a collegiate program that began at Penn State University in 2006 and was nationally launched in 2008. Florida State University (FSU) established their Chapter in the Fall of 2014.
“ASU supports students, faculty and alumni in their awareness and fundraising efforts for Autism Speaks. Chapters follow the lead of their Presidents and Vice Presidents, who are made up of students on the spectrum, students who have family members or friends on the spectrum, or students who want to make a difference in the autism community.”

For the third exciting year, Children’s Communication Center , is a proud sponsor of the Autism Speaks U – Florida State University’s Walk Event.
Autism Speaks states that the “Autism Speaks Walk is the world’s largest autism fundraising event dedicated to improving the lives of people with autism. Powered by the love of parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, relatives, and supporters, the funds raised help ensure people of all abilities have access to the tools needed to lead ‘their best lives’.”

As we approach September 7th, the day originally intended to be the 27th and final day of our #LittleOnesRock campaign, we realize that this is not the end, but a transition.

On June 4, 2017, my pediatric Speech-Language Pathology private practice, Children’s Communication Center (CCC), donated and dedicated three Little Free Library (LFL) units to the children, parents, and community to highlight the joys of experiencing language, literacy & learning as a family.
We hosted a Take Your Parents to the Playground Day event, stocked the libraries with books for all ages, collected and donated books to our local Guardian ad Litem program, and celebrated with the community.

Daily, we filled it and it quickly emptied. It was immediately spotted by children on the playground. We smiled & watched little ones asked to use their parent’s phone to take a picture of the LFL.
We knew once it was established the Sharing would increase, but at the time it was mostly Borrowing.
On June 25th, three weeks later, we went to add books, and this happened…

Children’s Communication Center’s will begin its Little Ones Rock event on Saturday, August 12th!
We will post pictures and then hide our #BeRocks starting with our words beginning with A. Then over the next twenty-six days, we will post pictures and hide the remaining rocks #AtoZ, one letter per day, but many #BeRocks each day. On September 7th, day 27, we will share our finale!
